To register a business in Hong Kong, you must have a registered commercial address. If your company moves to a new office, you must notify the Hong Kong Companies Registry within 15 days. Failure to do so is an offence, and every person responsible for the company can be liable for a late fee of HK$1,000 per day.

The Hong Kong SAR government usually sends four letters to a Hong Kong limited company per year: one (1) from the Statistics Department and three (3) from the Inland Revenue Department. All these letters have a timeframe to reply, and a late fee will incur if one does not respond before the deadline. Hence, it is important to choose a reliable TCSP licensee for the business office address service.

Understanding Hong Kong’s Districts

Hong Kong is a small city. However, there can be great diversity between each district as the culture is heavily influenced by both the East and the West. So, when choosing an office address, you should understand the differences between each district in Hong Kong.

In this section, we will classify Hong Kong into three main districts: Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, and the New Territories.

Hong Kong Island

Hong Kong Island Map

Most International Companies and Government Departments are located on Hong Kong Island. Within the Island is the financial hub; Central, Admiralty, Wan Chai, and Sheung Wan are the key Central Business Districts. Most expats live in this area and rents are probably the most expensive among all districts. Hong Kong Island may also be one of the most expensive places to rent an office in the world. If you’re looking for business registration in Hong Kong, you can expect to see some ‘grade A’ office space reaching over HK$200 per square foot.

Most international businesses choose to register their business in Hong Kong Island’s Central Business District. We have highlighted four subway stations for your reference. They are Central, Admiralty, Wan Chai, and Sheung Wan. Many expats choose to work in this area. However, foreigners shall understand that a Hong Kong Island address does not necessarily mean a proper address.

There are some subdivisions which are supposed to be for residential use. For example, if you choose to rent an office at Fortress Hill, which is a few subway stations away from Central, your company image may be viewed very differently. If you want to create the image that your company is sizable, we would recommend choosing a Central address when registering a business in Hong Kong.

Kowloon

If your business is targeting local customers, you may want to consider office space in the Kowloon area. Due to the high rent on the Island side, many corporations and government departments have been relocating their office to this area. For example, J.P. Morgan Chase plans to transfer its Hong Kong team to Kwun Tong next year. Rent is relatively cheaper in this District, making it perfect for those planning to register a business in Hong Kong. Tsim Sha Tsui and Mongkok are also some of the busiest districts in Hong Kong and are ideal places to rent an office.

However, if you choose to rent in the Kowloon area, be aware of the difference between Tsim Sha Tsui and Jordan, or Mongkok and Prince Edward. All these sub-districts are very near each other, sometimes only a few minutes’ walk apart. For example, choosing an address in Jordan may give customers the impression that your company is running out of budget or you are just a tiny company. Hence, if you are not familiar with Hong Kong, play safe and choose our office address for business registration purposes!

New Territories

Most companies choose New Territories as their back office. For example, due to cheaper rent and larger office sizes, the Get Started HK administration team is based in Tsuen Wan which is in the New Territories district. This allows us to lower our expenses and provides us with ample space to store most of our equipment and documents. If budget is a concern, you may want to consider the New Territories. Rent in industrial areas like Tsuen Wan and Tuen Mun are usually affordable. However, customers should note that it is not easy to recruit or retain talent who can speak fluent English in this area.

How Our Virtual Office Address Service Works

Email notification and Scanning Service

Get Started HK will send you an email notification when there is mail addressed to your company, and we offer a scanning service with a HK$30 handling fee per letter. For ease of payment, we usually charge when the service fee reaches HK$600 (i.e., 20 scans), so you don’t have to pay for each request. Note that all government letters are free of charge.

Mail Forwarding Service

If you prefer to open the mail yourself, we can arrange mail forwarding as per your request. You will need to tell us your preferred mailing method, i.e., HK Speedpost, FedEx, DHL, SF Express, and pay the mailing/shipping fee(s).

For easy reference, the Hong Kong Speedpost service can usually deliver mail to most major countries within five business days. FedEx and DHL are often more efficient. They usually take 1 – 2 business days.

Annual Cost for New Customers

For customers who would like to switch their office address to Get Started HK, our discounted price is HK$1,400. All you need to do is to sign a written resolution, and we will arrange the rest of the documents and filing for you. Changes usually take 5 – 7 business days.

Our Tips on Choosing a Reputable Business Office Address Provider

1. Are they licensed? In Hong Kong, a company needs to be a TCSP licensee if they provide address services. You can confirm this by asking for their license number and checking the database of Companies Registry. Don’t search for the company name; search for the license number. Scammers can easily replicate a company name. Our TCSP license no. is TC000807.

2. Online Reviews. Some firms are TSCP license holders, but you can see a bunch of negative reviews of their service. You should first check out the company Google and Facebook review before making your decision. Generally speaking, you should only choose a company with legitimate positive Google reviews.

3. English Communication Skills. You have to choose a TCSP address provider that is fluent in English. Their English need not be perfect, but they can help avoid miscommunications in essential company matters. At least they need to be able to inform you what the letter is about. If the message is from the government, they also have to be able to advise potential solutions.
